Lemon Loaf

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 1/2 cup flour

1 tsp. baking powder

3/4 tsp. salt

Grated rind of 1 lemon

2 cups sweet milk

1/2 cup walnuts

a few chopped cherries

Combine shortening, sugar, and egg. Add grated lemon rind and dry ingredients, alternately with milk. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 325*

Five minutes after taking out of oven, pour juice of lemon mixed with 1/3 cu sugar over top and sides of loaf.
